Brent Lawgun
Brent Lawgun has over 30 years of business experience across a range of industries, with a focus on private equity investment, funds management, board governance and business strategy. He is known for his pragmatic approach to aligning governance and operations with performance, culture and strategic outcomes.
Brent has invested and managed four private equity funds since 2002. He was a co-founder of private equity firm Maui Capital, which has managed NZ$500 million of committed investment capital, and served on the investment committees of both the Maui Capital Indigo and Aqua Funds. Prior to that, Brent was a Director of Private Equity at Goldman Sachs JBWere, where he invested and managed the Hauraki Private Equity No. 1 and Hauraki Private Equity No. 2 Funds.
Brent is a current or past director of numerous companies, overseeing and supporting a variety of active strategies including expansion, buy-and-build, industry consolidation, operational improvement and turnaround management. He has led capital raisings, mergers, acquisitions, divestments and joint ventures, amongst other corporate finance initiatives.
His background includes work in primary industries such as domestic and export horticulture, and he has a deep understanding of agriculture’s role in the New Zealand economy. Brent is also a past Board member of the St Cuthbert's College Educational Trust Board and a past Council member of the New Zealand Private Equity and Venture Capital Association.
Brent began his early working career as a corporate & commercial lawyer, most recently at Linklaters in London.
