The newly created positions of Head of Farming North Island and Head of Farming South Island, will be filled by internal candidates, after a thorough external search. The roles will oversee farming operations across Pāmu’s commercial livestock properties.

Andrew Kirk has been appointed to the Head of Farming South Island role and Ross Shepherd to the Head of Farming North Island role.

Mr Kirk has deep farming experience and has worked his way through the livestock farming system in New Zealand from shepherd to his current role of Senior Business Manager, Northern South Island.

Mr Shepherd has long farming experience, starting in a shepherding role with Pāmu and has progressed his career to be the current Senior Business Manager for the Central North Island Livestock farms.

“We will be facing significant challenges over the next five years as we adjust our systems to comply with new regulations while also working to capture new opportunities to grow and diversify our business, and these roles will be front and centre leading in this area,” General Manager Livestock Operations, Steve Tickner said.

“We are focused on adopting the best and most profitable land uses for our farms which are financially, environmentally and socially sustainable while remaining resilient and agile in the face of change.

“This was a contested role and it was particularly pleasing to see our own people rising to the top of a strong pool of internal and external candidates. Pāmu’s farming operations provide scale and diversity like no other farming entity and the calibre of our people was evident throughout the recruitment process,” Mr Tickner said.

The establishment of these two roles has seen a rationalisation of other management roles in the Livestock business and has not seen an increase in overall headcount.
