Farming safely - farming profitably
The Pāmu Open Farm Day at Rangitāiki on 28 May will be the first time that visitors to Pāmu farms all sign in on the SafeVisit App.
This App is going to be the new requirement for safely visiting all Pāmu (Landcorp Farming Limited) farms.
“One of the benefits of SafeVisit is that visitors, contractors and sub-contractors can register and download the latest hazard map of the farm before they arrive,” says Rangitāiki Farm Business Manager James van Bohemen.
“It is also far better data management for farm managers, as we can see in real time who is on the farm and where. On a farm this size, that beats pen and paper sign-ins.”
Near Taupō, Rangitāiki Station is 9,753ha (8,103ha effective) of predominantly flat to rolling country. A sheep, beef, and deer operation wintering 85,000 stock units, the station has significantly changed its stock profile over the last couple of years to integrate dairy beef, in line with the Pāmu goal of rearing all dairy-born calves by 2030.
James and his team will detail these changes and lessons learned throughout as they showcase productivity improvements, including reducing stock classes to nine, which improves focus and safety; parasite management; and the use of technology for both farming data and to allow the team to work safely across the vast property.
While farming safely is built into our daily practices, Health & Safety is the complementary focus of the Open Day – Farming safely, farming productively – with Pāmu sharing our critical risk framework and demonstrating how it applies to the risks of hazardous substances, stock handling, and vehicles.
Guests will be treated to a tour around the farm and key topic discussions, followed by a BBQ lunch courtesy of Silver Fern Farms. Te Pari Cattle Yards are sponsoring morning coffees, and the Rural Support Trust will be in attendance to connect with local farmers.
