Cougan Terry

Business Manager

A Drive for Results

Cougan Terry is a Business Manager for Pāmu on the West Coast. For Cougan, farming is about getting better every day and seeing the physical results of hard work. He has a strong focus on farm financial performance and enjoys the challenge of making solid decisions that pay off. His family is his main motivation. He wants to keep pushing himself to build a good life and a strong future for them.

Moving to the Coast

When Cougan and his wife were looking for a place to settle down; they wanted an opportunity for career progression. They decided to give the West Coast a crack. They had heard plenty of stories about the local sandflies, but luckily, they avoid the worst of them at home. Earning the step up to Business Manager has been a major highlight for Cougan. Gaining that trust and responsibility motivates him to keep learning and see how far he can go.

Life on the Farm

Farming keeps Cougan on his toes. He appreciates that there is always a new challenge to tackle or a better way to operate. He finds his greatest satisfaction in three specific areas: the people he works with, the continuous learning on the job, and the tangible results of hard work.

"To me, farming excellence is not being content with good. It is continuing to strive for better and always asking what we can improve."

Working Shoulder-to-Shoulder

Of all the Pāmu values, Cougan relates most to Shoulder-to-Shoulder. He is a firm believer that the farm team is in it together. If someone in the team fails, he fails, and when they succeed, everyone succeeds. He gets a lot of satisfaction from working alongside his team, helping people grow, and making sure everyone is pushing towards the exact same goal. For Cougan, part of farm excellence is creating a culture where everyone wants to keep getting better.

Looking Ahead

Cougan wants to keep progressing in the agricultural sector. His long-term focus is on driving financial success on farm, continuing to step up as a leader, and building a rewarding life for his family.
