Jacqueline (Jacque) Lattimore
Asking the right questions to drive farm performance
After finishing a degree at Lincoln University, Jacque Lattimore returned to her roots. Having grown up in and around the Te Anau Basin, an opportunity at Pāmu was the perfect chance to head south again. For Jacque, farming is about taking the theories she learned at university and applying them to the practical reality of a working farm.
She takes pride in caring for the livestock and looking after the land, and she finds it easy to get out of bed in the morning when there is a new challenge to tackle.
"What motivates me is the opportunity to keep learning, improving, and understanding the bigger picture behind what we do. I have always been someone who asks why."
Being bold and looking for the why
When looking at Pāmu values, Jacque relates most strongly to being Bold. To her, this does not mean taking unnecessary risks. It means having the confidence to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and look for better ways of doing things.
Jacque does not accept that a task must be done a certain way just because it always has been. Instead, she enjoys digging into the details of animal performance, pasture management, and farm operations to understand what truly drives success. She likes to step outside her comfort zone and test new ideas to see how they can improve outcomes.
Putting data to work on the farm
The rapid advancement of agricultural technology is a major interest for Jacque. Access to better data allows the team to test ideas and validate on-farm theories in ways that simply were not possible before.
A standout moment in her career has been her involvement in the uptake of Halter on Duncraigen Farm and the development of Beef pro, an advanced data and management upgrade for cattle ranchers launched by Halter in 2026. Working under the guidance of experienced colleagues like Pāmu Farm Managers Paul Smith and Scotty Keith, she enjoys taking raw information and turning it into practical decisions out in the paddock.
"Seeing a theory or idea backed up by data, and then watching it lead to a positive outcome, is incredibly rewarding."
The flow-on effect of good decisions
Jacque knows that farming excellence starts with the basics. It is about paying attention to detail and being disciplined in the small tasks that build long-term success. She focuses heavily on the flow-on effect that operational and genetic decisions have across the wider business, and she makes sure to stay connected with the commercial units.
A highly rewarding part of her job is attending sire dispersals. She enjoys talking to teams about the strong on-farm performance they are getting from the sire stock her team provides. Seeing the direct results of their hard work gives her a strong sense of achievement.
Stewardship and team culture
For Jacque, te ao Māori means taking care of the land, the animals, and the people through good farming practices and environmental stewardship. She wants to leave the farm in a better state for future generations.
She also knows that no individual achieves great results alone. The farming industry is full of knowledgeable people, and Jacque values the chance to work shoulder-to-shoulder with her colleagues. Her biggest moments of growth have come from sharing ideas, exchanging insights, and working together toward a common goal.
"Being part of an industry that produces food while caring for the land, animals, and future generations gives my work a strong sense of purpose."
The road ahead
Looking to the next five years, Jacque aims to step into a farm leadership role with a strong grasp of livestock, pasture, people, and business performance. While data and technology are valuable tools, she firmly believes there is no substitute for hands-on experience.
She plans to keep building her practical skills, learning from the farmers around her, and making sound decisions based on both the data she gathers and what she observes on the ground.
