Farming with Respect

For Mayfield Farm Manager Randy Pascua, farming comes down to one simple word: respect. Randy brings his Filipino heritage to his daily work. When he thinks about te ao Māori, he notes that the world consists of different nationalities and tribes with different beliefs. He believes we must respect people for who they are and that taking care of the environment is a shared responsibility. 

"Respect is the key word that we put in our mind whenever we deal with people, animals and the environment."

Family and Farm Life

Family is the main reason Randy gets out of bed in the morning. He works hard to build a good future for them.  

Since joining the business, Randy has found a strong support system. He values how the company backs staff to develop their skills through regular training. He says he has all the support he needs to perform his duties on farm. He also relies heavily on his team. He describes them as a wonderful group whose years of experience make them highly valuable to the farm.  

People at Pāmu work by four core values. Randy relates most strongly to being 'shoulder-to-shoulder'. 

"Everyone in my team practises this value. They help each other, remind each other and look after others."

Hitting Targets and Farming Excellence

This strong teamwork leads directly to better results in the paddock and the milking shed. For Randy, farming excellence is about finishing tasks properly and completing the day with a happy team. It also means reaching a good result at the end of the season and making sure we have zero accident to finish the season. 

Randy says it makes him proud to see his team recognised for a job well done. True to his focus on doing things well, he always encourages his team to push for even better results the following season. 

"The best moment in my current job is when you survive the season with a good outcome, hitting the target milk production or even exceeding the production from last season."

Looking ahead, Randy has a clear plan for the next five years. He hopes to still be managing Mayfield, working hard for his family and chasing top farming results shoulder-to-shoulder with his team.
