Kevin McCarthy

Contracting Manager

Driving Farming Excellence Shoulder-to-Shoulder

Behind every successful farming operation is a dedicated team keeping the wheels turning. For Kevin McCarthy, the Contracting Manager for the Central Farm Servicing (CFS) team, returning to the agricultural industry was a natural step. Coming from a strong farming background, Kevin initially joined Pāmu as a Machinery Operator, seeing it as a great way to get back into the industry he knows well. Today, he plays a crucial role in keeping farm operations running smoothly.

Growth, Opportunity, and Leadership

Kevin’s journey highlights the excellent career pathways available at Pāmu. After proving his dedication as a Machinery Operator, a brand-new Contracting Manager role was created within CFS. Kevin took the initiative to interview for it and successfully securing that position remains his proudest moment of reward and recognition here.

His professional development has continued from there. Another major highlight of his time with the company has been traveling to the head office in Wellington to complete The Nature of Leadership Programme.

Defining 'Farming Excellence' on the Ground

When asked what farming excellence looks like in his workday, Kevin focuses on practical, hands-on support to ensure the farms have exactly what they need.

"Farming excellence in my role would be making sure all farm maintenance is kept up, fencing, race maintenance, topping paddocks, etc."

This proactive approach is exactly what motivates him. Stepping up to support the farms is where he finds his purpose.

"Making sure my team have work ahead of them, and helping out farms when they are short-staffed, is what gets me out of bed in the morning."

Living Our Values: Shoulder-to-Shoulder

When considering our core values of Grounded, Genuine, Shoulder-to-Shoulder, and Bold, Kevin strongly relates to Shoulder-to-Shoulder

This collaborative spirit shines through in his everyday work. In fact, when listing the three things he loves most about his job, Kevin points directly to: working in the CFS team, problem-solving, and receiving positive feedback from Farm Managers about his team.

Looking Ahead

Where does Kevin see himself in five years? His goal is simple and highly impactful: to be right here at CFS, continuing to help solve any problems on the farm. With his practical expertise and team-focused mentality, Kevin is a vital asset to our wider farming community.
